Anjali and Kavya: Breaking Barriers with Education
By Natash Aston Cutinha
Anjali and Kavya, two bright and determined young women from Mysore, are a testament to how resilience and support can overcome even the most challenging circumstances. Anjali is currently in her first year of a BSc Nursing program at HMH, Mysore, while Kavya recently completed her BTech degree in July. Both sisters are incredibly clever and ambitious, but they have faced significant challenges growing up as the daughters of visually impaired parents.

Despite their parents' disability and the family’s financial struggles, Anjali and Kavya never let their circumstances hinder their education. With strong academic records and determination, they sought opportunities to continue their studies. It was through a known contact that their family reached out to CORD NGO, seeking educational support. Two years ago, CORD began assisting Kavya with her biotechnology studies, and the following year, we extended our support to Anjali as well.

Anjali’s academic success earned her a government seat in the BSc Nursing course at HMH, Mysore, allowing her to pursue her dream career. Her educational journey has been made possible through the generosity of an individual sponsor, who has supported her endeavors. Meanwhile, Kavya, who completed her BTech in July, is now taking a well-deserved break to prepare for government competitive exams, aiming to secure a stable future.

At CORD, we believe that education is the key to breaking the cycle of poverty, and we are proud to have played a role in Anjali and Kavya’s achievements. Their story is one of perseverance, where the combination of community support and their own dedication has helped them rise above their challenges. We look forward to seeing them achieve even greater things in the future, knowing they are equipped with the tools to succeed.
