Sanjana and Hemant: Building a Brighter Future
By Natash Aston Cutinha
Sanjana and Hemant, a brother-sister duo, are determined students, each working hard toward a better future. Sanjana is currently in the 12th grade at Mulki Junior College, while Hemant is studying in the 10th grade at CSI School in Udupi. They come from a single-parent household, where their mother has shouldered the responsibility of raising them alone. Their father is not living with them, leaving their mother to manage both their upbringing and her work.

To ensure their education, both Sanjana and Hemant live in CSI boarding homes—Sanjana in Mulki and Hemant in Udupi. Their mother used to work as an attender in the same school Hemant attends, and it was through a school driver that she learned about CORD NGO. Grasping the opportunity to secure a better future for her children, she reached out to CORD for support six years ago. Since then, CORD has taken on the responsibility of supporting their education.

Two years ago, Sanjana and Hemant’s mother transitioned from working as a school attender to becoming a home nurse. This shift provided her with some financial stability, but she continues to rely on CORD’s assistance to cover her children's educational expenses. Sanjana, now in her final year of junior college, dreams of becoming a nurse and is working diligently to make that dream a reality. Hemant, currently in 10th grade, aims to continue his education and eventually secure a job that can support him and his family.

At CORD, we are proud to have been part of Sanjana and Hemant’s journey for the past six years. Our goal is not just to provide financial aid but to empower children to chase their dreams and create better lives for themselves. Sanjana and Hemant’s story exemplifies how education, community support, and perseverance can open doors to a brighter future.
